Merseyflow extends support for local rugby union club for a sixth year

A local rugby union club is tackling the new season by striking a sponsorship deal with the Mersey Gateway and Silver Jubilee Bridge operator merseyflow for a sixth year.

Merseyflow is extending its sponsorship of the ‘Wids’ – Widnes Rugby Union Club – for a further twelve months in a boost for the club ahead of the new 2024/25 season.

The funding will help contribute towards the day-to-day running of the club, which relies on self-generated income to provide access to sports for players of all levels in Halton.

Neil Conway, Chief Executive of merseyflow, said: “Supporting the communities in Widnes and Runcorn is really important to merseyflow and we’re proud to support the Wids for another year.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming season and wish them the best of luck.”

In response, Widnes RUFC Club President Neil Ankers said: “We are absolutely delighted that merseyflow will be continuing their invaluable support to our Club for another full year.

“As a Community Rugby Club, we rely very much on the support and generosity of local businesses, and we are absolutely thrilled to have them on board once again”.
