merseyflow releases new app to make paying for one-off crossings even easier

A new app released today means unregistered merseyflow customers can now make quicker and easier payments for one-off bridge crossings.

The new app allows anyone not registered with merseyflow to pay for as many crossings as they like in advance or after they cross. Drivers have to pay the toll charge by midnight the day after crossing the Mersey Gateway Bridge, which celebrated its second anniversary last month.

Since the bridge opened in October 2017, it has significantly cut journey times and improved reliability for millions of commuters, holiday-makers and local residents travelling around Halton and the wider North West region.

Over two million vehicles a month use the Mersey Gateway Bridge, of which 19.4% percent over the last twelve months on average are non-registered customers.

This first phase of the new merseyflow app enables unregistered bridge crossers to pay the toll charge easily from their mobile device without creating an account on the merseyflow website.

Mike Bennett, Managing Director of the Mersey Gateway Crossings Board, said: “We’re very excited to bring our new app product to the public. We believe tolling should be straightforward and easy - the app has been created as a payment solution to save occasional bridge users time and effort on paying the toll charge.”

App users can opt to receive text or email reminders of when their balance has been spent, giving them clear notice they need to pay again for future crossings.

Neil Conway, Chief Executive of merseyflow, said: “Improving customer service is a key priority for merseyflow. This first phase of our app gives occasional users another way to pay and we will be expanding the functionality of it as we move forward.”

The merseyflow app is now available to download on iOS and Android. It will be updated in the future to provide new features, including the ability to store your payment details and scan your card to save time entering payment details.
