Thousands of Halton residents urged to renew their merseyflow annual plans

Thousands of Halton residents are being urged to act now to renew their annual merseyflow discount plans before they expire.

More than 14,000 residents are due to renew their payment plans in October - the fourth anniversary of the Mersey Gateway opening – making it the busiest time of the year for renewals.

As a large proportion of discount plans will run out at the same time, residents are being urged to beat the rush and organise their new subscription now to prevent delays.

Qualifying Halton residents whose annual Local User Discount Scheme plans are due to end in October must renew in order to continue to benefit from the heavily discounted rates to cross the Mersey Gateway and Silver Jubilee bridges.

All renewals will take effect from the expiry date of the existing pass, so no-one will lose out by renewing early.

Those that do not renew before the expiry date will lose their discounted rate and may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) for any unpaid crossings.

The quickest and easiest ways to renew are by using the merseyflow website, or calling its customer service team on 01928 878878. The merseyflow Walk-In Centre is also available for those without internet access.

Everyone renewing their Local User Discount Scheme plan will need:

  • a copy of their valid driving licence
  • a 2021/2022 Halton Borough Council tax bill (a copy of your Council tax bill can be obtained by emailing council.tax@halton.gov.uk), and
  • their V5C vehicle registration certificate – all showing their Halton address.

How to renew your discount plan

The quickest and simplest way to renew is to go online to the merseyflow website.

Halton residents can follow merseyflow’s simple five-step renewal guide:

  • Step 1 – scan or take photographs of your valid driving licence, current council tax bill and V5C vehicle registration certificate ready to upload
  • Step 2 – log into your merseyflow account at www.merseyflow.co.uk and click ‘renew my plan’
  • Step 3 – upload your documents
  • Step 4 – pay your £10 annual fee
  • Step 5 – you will receive an email confirming your payment has been received

Merseyflow has been contacting customers directly to remind them that if they do not take action to renew, they will need to pay for each crossing they make.

Neil Conway, Managing Director of merseyflow, said: “Renewing your discount plan is straightforward and those residents who used this last year will understand the process. The quickest and easiest way to renew is on the merseyflow website, but customers can also do it by calling our customer service team or at our Walk-In Centre.

“It’s important to make sure you have an active plan in place to continue to benefit from your discount on Mersey Gateway and Silver Jubilee Bridge crossings, and to avoid being issued with a PCN. We’re proactively contacting all Halton residents whose plans are due to expire to encourage them to renew as soon as possible.”

Eligible residents can take advantage of the discount scheme and make unlimited crossings for 12 months by paying a £10 admin fee.

The Local User Discount Scheme is only open to eligible Halton residents who drive cars and small vans for personal use. A range of other discount packages are available for people who live outside Halton or who live in the borough but do not qualify.
