Merseyflow sponsorship boosts Widnes Cricket Club

Budding cricketing superstars of the future from across Widnes are going to benefit from a new sponsorship deal agreed by merseyflow to support Widnes Cricket Club.

The three-year deal agreed by the Mersey Gateway Bridge tolling operator to sponsor the club includes funding to help it go into local schools and lay on coaching sessions, as well as run coaching events at the club itself.

The deal has also allowed Widnes Cricket Club to modernise and upgrade its 30-year old scoreboard, which is now completely digital. The scoreboard is one of the oldest in the north west and was recently ‘knocked out’ by a summer storm.

The Widnes Cricket Club first team was promoted to the Cheshire Premier League last season and, with two games to go this year, has already secured its premier league status for another 12 months, marking a successful season.

Neil Conway, Chief Executive Officer of merseyflow, said: “It has been an amazing cricketing summer so far and we’re really pleased to be sponsoring Widnes Cricket Club. The club does a lot of outreach work in the local community and I know that this deal will help them continue and extend that so it’s great to be involved.”

Rupert Faulkner, Club Secretary at Widnes Cricket Club, said: “This new sponsorship deal with merseyflow will enable us to fund more children’s cricket coaches and do more work with local schools. We have a programme of events that runs through the summer and in the winter we can also go into schools and lay on courses.”
