Hundreds of thousands of drivers who use the Mersey Gateway Bridge can now save their payment and vehicle details on the new-look merseyflow app.
The new-look app is a major upgrade and responds to a wish-list of features from customers to make paying for a one-off crossing:
- quicker – unregistered customers can store their bank card and vehicle information so they only have to enter details once
- easier – unregistered customers can set up the app to pay automatically each time they cross, and more reliable – as if customers set the auto-payment they need never get a PCN again.
This second phase of the new merseyflow app enables unregistered bridge users to save all this information in a ‘profile’, which means their details, including car registration and payment card details, will be securely stored for even easier, quicker payments.
App users can also opt to receive either email or app notification reminders once their pre-paid credit has been spent and they have crossed again, giving them clear notice they need to pay again for future crossings.
The app allows anyone not registered with merseyflow to pay for as many crossings as they like in advance of or after a crossing. Drivers have to pay the toll charge by midnight the day after crossing the Mersey Gateway Bridge.
Since the app launched last November, it has had over 44,000 downloads, with more than 1,000 Quick Pay App payments being made every day.

Our primary objective is to make paying for crossings straightforward and easy – the new option to create a profile for example will save occasional bridge users time and effort when paying their toll charge.”
Mike Bennett, Managing Director of the Mersey Gateway Crossings Board, said: “Customers who are still not crossing the bridge enough to create a registered account with merseyflow can now create an app profile instead. By creating a profile and opting to pay-as-you-go, non-registered customers won’t have to worry about getting a PCN. It really is that simple.”
The merseyflow app is available to download for free on iOS and Android devices.
