Sixteen giant bags of Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children in Halton have been donated by customers and staff of the construction and tolling companies behind the Mersey Gateway Project.

Construction consortium Merseylink and tolling operator merseyflow kick-started the appeal for the Halton Children’s Centres with a donation £1,500 worth of brand-new toys.

Customers and staff then added to the total by bringing in additional toys and Christmas presents to support the good cause to merseyflow’s walk-in centre. The appeal is now closed.

The appeal, which is supported by the Halton Children’s Centres in Runcorn and Trinity Church in Widnes, benefits hundreds of disadvantaged children from some of Halton’s most deprived areas every year.

David Hunter, SHEQ Manager with the Merseylink construction consortium, which has donated £1,000 to the appeal, said: “We’re really pleased to be working with the Halton Children’s Centres Christmas Appeal because all the benefits go to local kids and we know that 2020 has been such a challenging year for so many people in lots of different ways.”

Helen Williams, Marketing Manager at merseyflow, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to staff and customers for their donations – the walk-in centre only re-opened after the latest lockdown on 2 December so it has been amazing to get so many donations in such a short space of time.”

Denise Caldwell, Early Help Officer with Runcorn Children’s Centres, said: “This support is fantastic and I’d like to thank everyone for their donations. Every penny raised and gift donated will be used to support local children here in Halton this Christmas.”
